DeSoto Parish, LA — DeSoto Parish Schools is proud to announce that two outstanding educators have been named semifinalists for the Louisiana Department of Education’s prestigious Principal and Teacher of the Year awards. Mr. Brian Anderson, Principal of Stanley High School, and Mrs. Hillary Severin, 5th grade math teacher at North DeSoto Upper Elementary, have each been recognized for their exceptional leadership, dedication, and impact on student success.
“Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Severin represent the very best of our district,” said Superintendent Clay Corley. “Whether it's leading a campus to historic academic growth or making sure every student in her classroom reaches their full potential, they are both making a real difference for our kids. We are so grateful for their dedication to DeSoto Parish Schools.”
Brian Anderson – Principal of the Year Semifinalist

With more than three decades in education, Brian Anderson’s career reflects a deep commitment to students, staff, and community. He began his journey in 1994 as a teacher and coach in Mississippi before joining Stanley High School in 1999. Throughout his tenure, he has served in multiple roles, including teacher, coach, athletic director, and assistant principal. After leading Logansport High School as principal, he returned to Stanley High School in 2017, where he continues to serve as principal.
Under Mr. Anderson’s leadership, Stanley High School has experienced significant academic growth. By fostering strong collaboration with teachers and prioritizing instructional leadership, the school led the district in overall proficiency gains during the 2024–2025 school year. This included a 4-point increase in Mastery Plus performance and 6-point gains in both English Language Arts and Math on LEAP assessments.
“Mr. Anderson's leadership in DeSoto Parish reflects the true value of making a difference every day,” said Brandon Burback, Director of Administration. “Being named a semifinalist for Louisiana’s Principal of the Year is a powerful testament to the lives he impacts and the excellence he inspires. We are proud of the growth and achievement Mr. Anderson has accomplished.”
“Being named a semifinalist for Principal of the Year is truly an honor, but it’s a reflection of the incredible students, teachers, and staff at Stanley High School,” said Anderson. “This recognition belongs to our entire school community. Every day, our team works together to create opportunities for our students to succeed, and I’m proud to be part of a family that is committed to growth, excellence, and supporting one another.”
