Alice in Wonderland
Our first graders are learning about birds in English Language Arts (ELA). Mrs. Register's class enjoyed meeting Mrs. Firkins' pet bird, Ocean. Our teachers are always willing to collaborate to bring meaningful learning experiences to our students. #DeSotoDifference
Mrs. Foster's Pre-K class figured out how many kid sized shoes would fill up a triceratops' footprint. 👣 What a great way to connect students' background knowledge to new learning about dinosaurs 🦕 🦖

We had lots of Little Griffins who earned new AR buttons today! Congrats to our new 100 point club members and our 50 point club member! AR stands for Accelerated Reader which helps build reading fluency and comprehension 📚📖🥳

Read Across America week has been fun at NDLE! We hosted families at our Literacy Night, NDHS students came over to read to our students, students dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss character on Friday, and Mrs. Burford read the whole school a Dr. Seuss book on Google Meet everyday. Reading with your children builds background knowledge, vocabulary and all of the brain activity that helps them to eventually read independently.
See the picture of the flyer for another opportunity to serve our local community. The animal shelter is asking for families to fill an old prescription bottle with coins and turn it in to their teacher. The class who donates the most change will get have a visit from one of the shelter animals!

PreK Round Up is today at NDLE from 12:00-3:00. You can also register online at desotoreadystart.com or by scanning the QR code on our webite. Early registration is very important to ensure your child will have a place in our PreK program. Students must be 4 by September 30th to register.
