Voters in District 2 (North DeSoto) can calculate their tax impact with the online tax calculator. If approved, a $300,000 home would see a monthly increase of $34.50. Watch the video to learn how to calculate your impact! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXQj4j7SgqI

Making changes to lessen the impact:
The April bond plan is $47.5 million less than the November 2023 plan! Many items that were in the 2023 bond plan have been eliminated in the new proposal to better align with the community’s desire to focus on academics.

The DeSoto Parish School Board is dedicated to being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and are committed to using our resources to provide excellent educational opportunities for our students.
The cost to the taxpayer depends on the value of your home. For example, a $300,000 home in District No. 2 (North DeSoto) with a homestead exemption of $75,000 would have an adjusted taxable value of $225,000 which would be assessed at 10%. The increase from a millage of 3.6 to 22 would result in an annual increase of $414 per year or $34.50 per month.

Featured Frequently Asked Question: The State of Louisiana usually requires districts to wait a year after a failed bond, how is the DeSoto Parish School Board able to hold another election so quickly?
The State Bond Commission oversees all of the bond elections and issuance in the state. They met on February 15, 2024 and voted to allow the DeSoto Parish School Board to hold the April 27 election. This approval is largely due to the overall need in the district and the large change in scope and costs to the previous proposal. The Bond Commission does not always approve these follow-up elections, but felt that voters should be able to review the new proposal and cast a vote as soon as possible.
