Featured Frequently Asked Question: How is the April 2024 bond proposal different from the November 2023 plan that was rejected by voters? The April 2024 bond plan is $47.5 million less than the November 2023 plan. The November 2023 proposal was for a total of $130 million and included a new high school( for 1200 students), improvements to the lower elementary school, and athletic spaces. The April 2024 proposal is significantly reduced in costs at $85.2 million. Many items that were in the 2023 bond plan have been eliminated in the new proposal to better align with the community’s desire to focus on academics. https://www.desotopsb.com/page/nd-bond-24-faq-and-resources

bond
Featured Frequently Asked Question: If the bond proposes a millage increase of 22, wouldn’t the total millage be 25.6? No. The current millage of 3.6 expires in December 2024. If approved, the $85.2 million bond will assess a total millage of 22, not an increase of 22. Coach Prather’s Cyber Society class has been hard at work this week. Students used various cardboard, plastic, and decorative items to create, build, and present robots. Each robot has to serve a special purpose and possess a tool that would be beneficial to society. Students created robots that can teach people to play instruments, clean up the ocean, give first-aid, help the disabled, and make make your dinner. Groups were scored by popularity votes, a teacher presentation score, and a guest judge ranking!

The DeSoto Parish School Board is dedicated to being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and are committed to using our resources to provide excellent educational opportunities for our students. The cost to the taxpayer depends on the value of your home. For example, a $300,000 home in District No. 2 (North DeSoto) with a homestead exemption of $75,000 would have an adjusted taxable value of $225,000 which would be assessed at 10%. The increase from a millage of 3.6 to 22 would result in an annual increase of $414 per year or $34.50 per month. https://www.desotopsb.com/page/nd-bond-24-tax-impact
