Bettie Carter- School Support

Mansfield, LA DeSoto Parish Schools is proud to announce that the Louisiana Department of Education has named Mrs. Bettie Carter a 2025 Outstanding School Support Employee  State Finalist. This well-deserved honor celebrates over five decades of unwavering service, dedication, and excellence in education from a true pillar of the Mansfield school community.

Mrs. Carter has been a steadfast presence in the Mansfield Schools for more than 50 years. Known for her tireless commitment and deep connection to the Mansfield Wolverines, she is as much a part of the school's identity as its colors and traditions. Her late husband, Mr. Fred Carter, served as a beloved disciplinarian and football coach at Mansfield High School, and together, they became champions of Mansfield student success.

Even after officially retiring twice, Mrs. Carter's heart for service called her back. She returned as a full-time substitute teacher, renowned for maintaining high standards of instruction in any classroom. Her ability to uphold excellence in the regular teacher's absence made her an invaluable asset across grade levels.

"We are immensely proud of Mrs. Carter!  She makes a difference in the lives of children every day and has been doing so for 50-plus years," said Mansfield Elementary Principal Amanda LaFollette.  "We are just thankful the state knows what we have known all along— Bettie Carter is AMAZING!"

At the conclusion of the 2022-2023 school year, Mrs. Carter stepped into yet another vital role—as a Paraprofessional on the Mansfield Elementary School literacy team. Now, in her second year, she supports struggling readers through personalized interventions that are both fun and effective. Her dedication is evident in the results she delivers and the joy she brings to students' learning experiences.

Superintendent Clay Corley shared his heartfelt congratulations, saying,

"Ms. Bettie Carter is a living legacy in DeSoto Parish Schools. Her love for children, dedication to teaching, and lifelong service to Mansfield embodies the very best of what it means to be an educator. We are honored to have her represent DeSoto Parish as a state finalist—this recognition is so well-earned."

Mrs. Carter has taught generations of students and left a lasting impact on countless lives. Her selection as a state finalist is not only a recognition of her current excellence but also a tribute to a lifetime of service and a heart for education.

DeSoto Parish Schools congratulates Ms. Bettie Carter on this exceptional honor and thanks her for being a beacon of commitment, compassion, and educational excellence.
