If the bond is not approved, current North DeSoto facilities will be challenged to meet the growing needs of the community, possibly resulting in increased overcrowding. More than 130 new addresses have been approved and in addition to 12 subdivisions with up to 500 lots currently in the planning or development phase. Due to rising costs and projected inflation, the $130 million project would cost $140 million if started in 2026.

While the Bond plan doesn’t directly impact North DeSoto Upper Elementary School, the plan to reconfigure grades among different facilities would allow class sizes to be lowered to the parish standard of 20:1 student to teacher ratio. Lowering the student/teacher ratio means more individualized instruction, enriched classroom experiences, and greater opportunities for growth.

No. The bond plan is about more than just the high school! The bond plan would impact learners of all ages in the North DeSoto area! High school students would have a future-focused learning environment, middle school students would have amazing lab and career spaces by moving into the current high school, elementary students would see smaller class sizes and get more one-on-one time with teachers, and our three- and four-year-old PreK programs would be able to accommodate more young learners instead of having a waitlist.

Featured Frequently Asked Question: How much of the bond is dedicated to athletics?
Less than 25% of the $130 million bond is dedicated to athletics or extracurricular spaces. While the facility cost is larger than previous projects, this is due to rising construction costs as well as the DeSoto Parish School Board’s commitment to create a long-term solution for our growing community. Educational spaces account for 78% of the plan and would provide modern learning spaces, future-focused labs and career spaces, and dedicated areas for the PreK programs that currently have a waitlist.
