Featured Frequently Asked Question: If the bond proposes a millage increase of 22, wouldn’t the total millage be 25.6?
No. The current millage of 3.6 expires in December 2024. If approved, the $85.2 million bond will assess a total millage of 22, not an increase of 22. You can use the online tax calculator to calculate your impact and submit any questions to questions@desotopsb.com

The DeSoto Parish School Board is dedicated to being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and are committed to using our resources to provide excellent educational opportunities for our students.
The cost to the taxpayer depends on the value of your home. For example, a $300,000 home in District No. 2 (North DeSoto) with a homestead exemption of $75,000 would have an adjusted taxable value of $225,000 which would be assessed at 10%. The increase from a millage of 3.6 to 22 would result in an annual increase of $414 per year or $34.50 per month.

The April 2024 proposal is significantly reduced in costs at $85.2 million with a millage rate of 22. The plan proposes the construction of a new high school and upgrades to the lower elementary which would be combined with reconfiguring grade levels across current facilities.

In December 2023, more than 600 community members participated in a survey to gather more information about the election results and priorities for a solution. Respondents overwhelmingly felt that the 2023 bond was too expensive for taxpayers and that they wanted to see a solution that was less than $100 million with more details available.

Schools in the North DeSoto area continue to face the challenge of accommodating the community’s rapidly growing population.
North DeSoto Upper Elementary also struggles with class sizes due to space constraints. While the Parish standard student-teacher ratio for these grade levels is 20:1, we are seeing higher class sizes in District 2, simply because there is no capacity for additional sections. The school once had four homerooms per grade level but is now seeing 10 per grade level.
