Kudos to Mrs. Emily Parker Johnston at Stanley School, this week she incorporated exercises in her Kindergarten class that recognize emotional and mental well-being as part of their total body health. The class did listening activities, circle shares, and “wows” to show they are listening to what one another says and also spoke kind words about each other. They also practiced gratitude where they wrote notes to people in their lives to show how thankful they were for them. The class completed breathing techniques and mindful exercises like guided meditations.
Thank you for recognizing School Wellness Week.

Parents and Caregivers, DeSoto Parish School District is making mental health and emotional well-being a priority. Our goal is to create a healthy and supportive school where students feel connected to adults and peers. But we cannot do it alone. You have a powerful role in supporting your child’s learning, health, and emotional well-being at home and at school. When parents are engaged in their children’s school activities and initiatives, they get better grades, choose healthier behaviors, and have better social skills. Join us during School Wellness Week on April 10-14th. Stay tuned for more information about how you can participate.
