World Down Syndrome Day is March 21! This day was created to celebrate the lives of
people with Down syndrome and to make sure they have the same freedoms and opportunities as everyone else. This year’s World Down Syndrome Day theme, “Together Against Loneliness”, highlights the importance of connection, belonging, and inclusion for people with Down syndrome. Loneliness can affect anyone, but people with intellectual disabilities are often at greater risk due to social barriers, exclusion, or lack of opportunities to participate fully in community life.

In DeSoto Parish, we celebrate the unique strengths and contributions of individuals with Down syndrome and reaffirm our commitment to creating an environment where every student feels seen, valued, and included. By building friendships, encouraging kindness, and ensuring that everyone has a place to belong, we can work together to reduce loneliness and strengthen our community.

On World Down Syndrome Day, we invite students, staff, and families to join us in promoting inclusion, celebrating differences, and standing together against loneliness.

This year we are honored to host seven residents from four different universities. Today we had the privilege of working this group of future educators. Huge Thank You to Mrs. Lafollette at MES for hosting our meeting and to her and Mrs. Jenna Grooms for spending time sharing some thoughts with the group. Mrs. Lainee Cosby also did a wonderful job leading discussion with the group on collaboration and the TAP processes in DeSoto Parish. It was a GREAT working session!! We are proud of this group and look forward to seeing them grow in our profession. #winningtogether
