📣 Tax Millage Rates Lowered in DeSoto Communities! 📣
At its June meeting, the DeSoto Parish School Board approved reductions to the debt service millages in the following districts
✅ Logansport (District 1): 13.15 ➡️ 10.00 mills
✅ Stanley (District 3): 15.00 ➡️ 5.00 mills
✅ Mansfield (District 4): 4.00 ➡️ 3.00 mills
These reductions reflect our continued commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency in managing voter-approved bond debt. Debt service millages are only allowed to pay expenses related to the bonds that were issued in these districts. They cannot be used to fund operational or any other expenses.

📣 DeSoto Parish Teachers Rocked Building Thinking Classrooms 2025! 📣
Our amazing educators (Ms. Lori Sebren, Ms. Carla White, Ms. Petriello, and Ms. Wilson) participated in the Building Thinking Classrooms conference in Seattle, where they immersed themselves in strategies to foster deeper student thinking.
Inspired by Peter Liljedahl's research, they learned how to spark engagement with "Thinking Tasks," use "Visibly Random Groupings" for collaboration, and leverage "Vertical Non-Permanent Surfaces" to make thinking visible. We're incredibly excited for them to bring these transformative practices back to our classrooms and elevate learning across DeSoto Parish!

We're keeping busy here at DeSoto summer learning program! Our students are having a blasts with the various activities we offer in our summer learning program, one students says her favorite parts of summer learning are "Learning, eating lunch, going outside and camp invention!" Part of our program, camp invention, helps students by, as one of our teachers describes, "Utilizing kids unique skills to practice engineering and science." One of these projects helped students explore these skills by using paper cups to build towers and work together as a team to make sure they were able to stand tall. We at DeSoto Parish strive to make a difference in the lives of our students with projects such as these and will continue to do so as we continue our summer learning program.
